What is a car chassis?
Time:2020.04.06

It's said that the car has three parts: engine, gearbox and chassis. The engine and gearbox are very familiar, but for what is the chassis, maybe you can only point to the bottom of the car. Is the chassis really as simple as the underbody? What is the use of chassis?

In short, the automobile chassis is used to install the engine and various parts of the automobile to form a whole. And accept the power of the engine to make sure that the car is running normally on the road. It's easy to say, but it can contain four important systems in the car.

First is the transmission system. Its function is to transmit the power output by the engine to the driving wheel, so that the wheel can rotate. The transmission system is mainly composed of clutch, gearbox, transmission device, drive axle and other parts. It can be said that all parts from the clutch to the middle of the wheel belong to the transmission system.

If the wheels can turn, the driving system is needed to ensure normal driving. The driving system is composed of frame, axle, suspension, wheel and tire. Its function is to bear the total weight of the car and receive the power from the transmission system to drive the car. In addition, the driving system should also buffer the vibration of the vehicle body caused by the external impact to ensure the stability of driving.

Of course, the car can't just run in a straight line. At this time, the steering system on the chassis will play a negative role in turning. The steering system of automobile is mainly composed of steering control mechanism, steering gear and steering transmission mechanism, among which the most common one is steering wheel.

In addition to the above, there is a very important brake system on the chassis. After all, if you can run, you have to stop to make sure that the car can stop in the shortest distance. The brake system of automobile generally includes two sets of independent brake systems, i.e. service brake and parking brake. At present, the common brake mechanism generally includes hydraulic brake and air brake.

See here you should understand that the chassis of a car refers to a series of parts that support the driving of the car and control the driving state of the car. Don't confuse the chassis with the big floor at the bottom of the car.
